MISS Namibia 2023, Jameela |Uiras (23), selected to represent Namibia at the 72nd Miss Universe competition revealed her national costume representative of the Oryx (Gemsbok) – for the pageant slated to take place in San Salvador, El Salvador on 18 November 2023. |Uiras departed the country on Thursday, 02 November 2023.

The Miss Universe Organization (MUO) is a global, inclusive organization that celebrates all cultures, backgrounds and religion. With this, Miss Universe Namibia chose to celebrate the Namibian nation with her national costume symbolizing resilience, adaptability, and grace. The Oryx holds significance for the people of Namibia due to its cultural and ecological importance. It is featured on the coat of arms of Namibia as a symbol of our country’s diverse wildlife and natural heritage. The Oryx is a true desert animal and adapts to any harsh climate conditions. During the COVID-19 pandemic, |Uiras went through a lot of struggles and challenges but adapted to the shifts. Besides covid-19, Namibians generally adapt to any circumstances, just like the Oryx. It serves as a reminder of the importance of wildlife conservation and sustainable practices, while also promoting cultural identity and pride. The Oryx has played a historical role in the livelihood and survival of Namibians as a source of food, clothing, and materials for various purposes.

Upon landing, |Uiras has completed registration, fittings and U-camp after receiving a very warm welcome into the country. With less than a month to go, the public is urged to vote for Jameela |Uiras to secure her spot in the semi-finals. To vote, download the Miss Universe app, and vote  for Namibia as your choice as many times as possible, the first vote is free!  The NBC Board of Directors, Director General, Stanley B. Similo, management and staff pledge their full support behind |Uiras and wish her nothing but success on her international journey.
